Five of the Country's Best Hole in the Wall Breakfast Joints
1. Polly's Pancake Parlor, Sugar Hill, New Hampshire
New Hampshire's fresh air invigorates the soul and whets the appetite. When this happens, head over to Polly's Pancake Parlor, a red 1930s dining hall-like building and order some of the best whole wheat and cormeal pancakes found anywhere. Add some fruit and then cover it all in golden, sweet homemade maple syrup. And why not throw in a side of smoked bacon, too? Breakfast doesn't get much better than this.
2. Stewart's, Lake Ozark, Missouri
When you've got a craving for hot, delicious cinnamon rolls in the morning - or any other time, really - visit Stewart's, a roadside diner with the world's best hot, sticky, homemade cinnamon buns. They satisfy the sweet tooth any day of the week. Get there early, though, since a crowd is usually at the door.
3. Nova Cafe, Bozeman, Montana
Tucked in the heart of downtown Bozeman, the Nova Cafe is the perfect Western spot for eggs benedict and omlettes made with fresh, natural ingredients. Coffee selections include cinnamon maple latte, spiced brown sugar latte and more irresistable flavors. The cafe is cozy and friendly, perfect for a quick breakfast bite or a leisurely brunch.
4. Biscuit Love, Nashville, Tennessee
As the name suggests, this not-to-be-missed eatery specializes in biscuits, including bonuts (fried biscuit dough tossed in sugar and topped with lemon masgarpone) and good old fashioned biscuits covered in thick, delicious gravy. Look a little deeper at the extensive menu and you'll also find heavenly breakfast skillets. When in Nashville, be sure to stop in for an early meal that's hard to beat.
5. Indian Village, Cave Creek, Arizona
A trading post with t-shirts and souveniers, Indian Village also has a loyal following of breakfast lovers. The menu is not extensive, but the homemade egg burritos, spinach enchiladas and corn cakes served with beans never disappoint. The best part is that you can come any time of the day because Indian Village serves breakfast from morning to night.
