Latrobe (population 8,000) is a nice town outside of Pittsburg in western Pennsylvania. It started out just before the Civil War and is notable for being home to Rolling Rock beer (thanks to the Latrobe Brewery) and the birth place of television personality Fred Rogers.
The banana split was also invented in Latrobe, and golfer Arnold Palmer lived here. The NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers train in Latrobe, and in 1895 it was the site of the first professional American football game. Today, it is the site of St. Vincent Collge.
Downtown has sturdy red and white brick buildings and streets with telephone poles. Neighborhoods are safe and leafy.
