Layton, Florida:
Layton (population 250) is the only town on Long Key and started as a fishing camp after WWII. It is separated into two areas, one packed with colorful homes, many of which sit on stilts and most of which back to a canal. Here are boat rentals, a convenience store, a church, etc.
Down the road, the smaller part of Layton, which sometimes only has a Long Key address, is home to single family beach homes and Outdoor Resorts, a mobile/manufactured home community with a small private boat dock and beach.
Long Key is nestled in the middle of the Florida Keys and boasts a very mellow kick-back atmosphere. Its turquoise waters are crystal-clear, perfect for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and fishing. Birdwatchers come to visit Long Key State Park, home to diverse avian species and excellent opportunities for spotting wildlife. The Park also has a public beach. Lime Tree Bay Resort features a private strip of sand, tiki huts, etc.
