Flagler Beach, Florida:
Sleepy Flagler Beach sits mostly on a narrow barrier island between St. Augustine and Daytona Beach on the northeastern Florida coast. It has a funky, mellow vibe with boating, fishing and all kinds of other water recreation a way of life.
With mostly mom and pop restaurants and retailers, Flagler Beach exudes an Old Florida small town ambiance. Tall structures are few. Most buildings are a pastel blue, orange, green or yellow.
The Intracoastal Waterway flows along most of the west side of town, and on the east side, the pretty, six-mile-long stretch of oceanfront white sand sparkles. The beach is usually quiet, and parts of it welcome well behaved dogs and their humans. In the winter, Right Whales play offshore, and in the summer, sea turtles nest on the beach.
