Daytona Beach, Florida:
Lively Daytona Beach (population 70,000) is on Florida's northeastern coast and is known for its wide, 23-mile long beach with hard-packed sand. It is this sand that attracted early-20th century automobile inventors looking for a place to test their new products. In 1958, NASCAR created the Daytona International Speedway to replace the beach course. Today, cars are still permitted on much of the beach but cannot travel faster than 10 MPH.
The city has an abundace of water parks, a fun boardwalk and numerous automobile- and motorcycle-related festivals, including Speedweeks, Coke Zero Sugar 400 and Daytona Beach Bike Week. Spring Breakers descend in March. Interestingly, Daytona Beach does not allow thong bikikins on the beach or anywhere else in town.
