Boynton Beach, Florida:

Boynton Beach (population 82,000) started out as an agricultural hub in the late 1800s and later became a dairy production center. The first housing development came along in the 1920s and was the beginning of Boynton Beach's future as a residential community. It is one of a continuous stretch of towns along the southeast Florida coast, with Delray Beach to the south and Lake Worth to the north.

The town sits along the Intracoastal Waterway, but despite its name, has no beachfront (but has several boat launch points). Beaches are actually across the Intracoastal in Ocean Ridge, which was once a part of Boynton Beach. The largest beach, Oceanfront Park, is clean and has a nice new canopied boardwalk. Jet skiing, fishing and SCUBA diving all popular activities.

Expensive, established neighborhoods are generally toward the water. The waterfront is a pedestrian-friendly destination with dining, shopping, businesses and entertainment.
